Get the instruction booklet that came with your LinkSys router.
Look for the proceedure to LOGIN to your router. You use Internet Explorer and go to the Address that is shown as your GATEWAY.
Once you have signed in, look for the Wireless Security feature. You see, you will type a Password of your choice, but it will generate a CODE that you must write down. Then each computer will Connect to that Wireless connection using that code.
This is so easy that a Cave Man can do it.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

Enable WPA2, WPA-PSK, or WEP on both your wireless router and every computer. Try those in the order given. If one computer isn't capable of WPA2 then step down to WPA-PSK for all. Write this password down on paper some place safe. If you forget your password you will have to perform a "hard reset" of the wireless router.
Turn off the broadcast of your SSID at the wireless router.
View the wireless router's connection log to verify which MAC addresses your systems use. Add each of those to the MAC address filter in your wireless router and set the router to ONLY ALLOW from those MAC Addresses.
Make sure each of your systems has Windows Firewall enabled and a Virus Scanner at the very least.
Avoid using network sharing as much as possible.
If you have 2 systems only allow the wireless router to issue 2 IP addresses.
Turn the SPI firewall of the router ON if it has this feature.
If possible, LOWER the power output of your wireless router and position the wireless router in a central location within the house as far as possible from external walls.
Change the default password for the Admin account of your wireless router and write that down on paper some place you won't lose it.

You can also view the manual online at linksys.com.
Activate WEP/WAP, disable broadcast of SSID, and use the MAC address filter.
The MAC filter will only allow computers on your wireless network that are listed in your MAC address filter list. Each wireless card has a unique MAC address. To find out your address for your wireless computers turn on your computer with the wireless card and in the DOS mode type:
ipconfig /all
The 16 digit hexadecimal number labeled as the physical address is you MAC address for that computer. If you change wireless cards, or a friend brings their laptop over, you will have to add those to the MAC address filter before they can use your network.
On your router disable the broadcast of SSID. You will then have to write down the SSID and then type that into the wireless computer that you want to use on your network. You will also be asked to enter your WEP or WAP information.

The Linksys website has full details on how to secure your wireless network. That is the one area you need to be sure to secure.
Basically you log into the router (if its at default settings you enter 192.168.1.1 in your browser window.)
Once logged into the router go to wireless settings and set a unique SSID then turn on wireless security WPA is best. Set a "passphrase" which you will need to remember. You then connect and enter the same passphrase on each wireless computer. You are fairly secure at that point.
You also need to have firewalls and anti-virus installed on every computer.
Just visit http://linksys.com go to support and enter your wireless adapter model for complete information!
