SOME parents are like this. I learned sex education from school and friends. I am 38 and my mother never taught me ANYTHING regarding the opposite sex. I am now the mother of 4 sons (8 -19) and I talk to my boys about EVERYTHING regarding women, sex, protection. I am my childrens FIRST teacher and the teacher they will have the longest...It is my responsibility to make sure they learn from the best!!

In most family's that seems to be the norm. However, There are just some things that should be kept private. But talking with your children in general or leaving the conversation to be explored helps educate kids. Brings a parent and child closer. As a parent, I believe if a kid wants to talk about sex it should be spoken about. This way they get the right information.

Well nothing is really normal. More look at it that there are large amounts of normal families that do not talk openly about sex, and large amounts that do. Personally I reckon its safer to educate early and teach kids early, but many families with just as good reasons do not.
If you want to know, look it up yourself in secret - you seem mature enough to handle it. Just don't mention it in your family and don't think too much about it - I'm in school currently too, but as advice to what I'm guessing is a fellow student, possibly younger, is not to worry about such things - you don't like to hear it, but there will be time after education for all that.
Oh yes, and feel free to ask me anything about sex through the message system - I will be glad to answer it.

Parents should talk to their kids openly about sex these days because it really needs to be said! People are having sex younger and younger so the parents should enforce them with knowledge and understanding of sex...the good and bad things.
It isn't really strange that your parents don't talk to you about sex because the same thing most likely happened with them and their parents. So they are just repeating history and what they were taught about sex by their parents....or not taught!

If parents don't tlak to their children openly and honestly about sex then they learn it from their inexpeirenced friends...and come home pregnant or with STD's...My parents talked to me about sex at a young age...and they answered my questions honestly...they also talked to me about love and that I should respect my body, and demand that others respect my body also...So no it's not normal that parents don't talk to their children...it's true that most don't and it's sad that they don't...but in my family it was normal...

Start by talking to your mom about the MTV show or ask her to watch it with you. If that does not spark any conversation, ask her an easy, not too revealing question. As your relationship developes, you can ask her deeper questions. As mothers, we are not always comfortable with sex questions because we have our own hang ups, fears for our children, questions ourselves... Good luck
