I think it is better to arm yourself with your wits when going out

I carry a personal alarm (I got it from the police) in my coat pocket everywhere I go but I think my voice would have more effect. No-one pays attention to alarms now and I have a very, very loud voice.
I carry pens, a brolly, a bag which usually has a heavy book in it (can do some damage when swung), body spray ... all of which can be used as weapons.
I am extremely heavy handed and once sent a lad sprawling across a room for swearing at me - well ... I don't like swearing, I NEVER do it and don't expect to hear it. But because of that incident, I have suppressed my quick and hot temper to the point where people think I'm a laid back wimp.
I'm happy for them to think that, just .... don't push it.

We've taken a shotgun out with us when walking the dog late at night loads of times, its because we have these empty courtyard buildings and too often people go in there for some reason, plus lately some buggers been shooting barn owls (they've killed a baby one for no reason, and I don't like that!) so we just carry them round to scare trespassers away. But we live in the middle of nowhere, in a town we wouldn't, and obviously the barrels aren't loaded - that would be silly.

It a shame you have had some positive responses to this one that's whats wrong with the country to many people willing to carry weapons.
That's why we have so many tragedies and so many lives are wasted. its a vicious circle the more who carry the more feel they need to and the more that carry the more they are used pitaris box of escalating violence. Just don't do it

No, and id advise you not to because you can and will end up in court and may go to jail and get a criminal record if and when stopped by the police.
but carry a small can of hairspray as a self defence use only as this would give you those vital seconds to get away from any attacker if need be (keep it in the top of ur bag where it is easy acessable to you in an emergancy)

Nope... i have often thought about buying a personal alarm though.. just never got round to it, plus id probably lose it or get drunk and start sounding it off where ever i am..
ppl who go out drinking and carrying weapons are the worst cause they are the type that go out to cause trouble

I don't go 'out' at night to clubs or anything. Yes, I have carried a weapon, on day runs to the city, out of town overnight trips. In case I break down or when in city, someone tries to kill me, I am ready.
Jay Jay is right, if you could have it taken away from you, don't carry it.

It's best to know in advance how to defend yourself without any weapons. If they are taken away from you or fail for whatever reason most people will panic and not know what to do next! Most police when they lose their weapons go to pieces immediately!

I have been permitted to carry a weapon for many years and everywhere I go, it goes. Reason, self protection of property or to aid in stopping a crime.
