The Insert Symbol function is not available in Excel but if you have an 'Alt Gr' key on your keyboard (to the right of the Spacebar) you may be able to use this to insert the accents. Just hold the Alt Gr key and click on the letter E. This is how I do it.

From the Insert menu, click on Symbol. This will bring up a window that allows you to insert the characters in a font for which there is a key on the keyboard. Find and insert the accented e.
