I just bought some dvd-r disks to put some video files onto but when i put them into my computer they aren't regonized im not sure if this is to do with my writer or if i need a driver but i have bought to types of dvd disk and neither work.
Any help would be most appreciated.

In order for your computer to be able to save to a DVD-R you need two things. First is a drive able to write to DVD-R disk. Normally there will be an emblem on the door of the tray, or right by it, that will have a "DVD-R" or "DVD-RW" emblem on it. If there is no emblem, or it says "DVD-ROM", then it is not a DVD-R burner.
Secondly, you have to have a software, such as Nero or Roxio, to be able to burn DVDs. Windows does not support DVD burning without added software.

What are the specifications of the computer and the DVDs. I am pretty sure that the DVDs are good.
In troubleshooting:
1. Do you have a DVD-RW drive? Blank DVDs wont work in a DVD-ROM drive.
2. Check in device manager that there is no x or ! next to the DVD drives options.
If you don't find the problem, email me or repost your question with the specifications of your computer.
I just think that you are trying to burn DVDs on a DVD-ROM or CD-RW drive.

you also need the dvd-r's that are compatable with your dvdr drive like mine wont use maxell but it will use memorex
i put a maxell in to burn and it played a couple times then started messing up good thing i only bought a few of those
