Perhaps because they aren't running for president. In order to be elected you have to run. If I am correct Hillary Clinton is the first major woman candidate ever in the United States. I don't know about Australia though as I am American.

Like President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is now a President in the Philippines is elected as a President after to impeach the former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada since 2001 and after 3 years she was ran again for the President in 2004 and then she won it during the 2004 Election over the actor Fernando Poe Jr.and I think the reasons that some people are they want to vote the man or woman for the President I think of being a popularity person to the public, being a good politician, being a powerful woman, being a responsibilities and duties as the President.

No viable candidates have run for office. In the US women have run for President, but got little support.
