The only way to deal with nightmares is to find out what they mean to you. Think back to what it was that scarred you. Try to meditate; sit quietly, listen to calming music, light a candle and go back. Breathe. Know that you are awake, and you are not going back to relive the fear, but to understand the meaning.
Understand that a night mare is either something that affected you during the day, but looks 100 times worse when you dream it, or it's your mind trying to tell you something you are not dealing with a specific problem in your life.
I used to get nightmares in college around exams. I used to dream that I was falling from some tall building or bridge. It had to do with my fear of failing (my exams, in life etc.). In other words, it was normal because I was under stress. It took me a while to relate the two. I kept a dream diary for a while where I wrote what happened. Later during the day, when I calmed down, I re-read it and tried to make sense out of it.
Also, unless you're allergic, drink a cup of Chamomile tea before going to sleep. It calms your nerves. And most of all, don't worry; it was just a dream! ;-)))

sometimes when you're in an uncomfortable position while you're sleeping (or different bed/sofa, etc.), you could have pretty bad dreams.
And if you had a rough/tiring/stressful/active day, this could also trigger it. Try to drink some tea or hot chocolate, watch a movie or something to keep your mind off of these thoughts before you head back to bed. Don't feel anxious because you might fall back into the same nightmare, try not to think about it, and envision yourself in a peaceful place, ex. sitting by the lake/beach... after your mind adjusts to this, you'll fall back to sleep w/o the repercussions.
p.s. I grew up having terrible night terrors and nightmares, this has always helped me and has always calmed my nerves and fear.
hope this helps!

Dreams are electrical impulses freely interpeted by the portion of your brain that doesn't sleep. Before you deprive the rest of your body its much needed sleep, put a pencil and paper beside your bed and when you awake, write down what you dreamt. this will jog a memory or give you an insight you can use later, its natural, take advantage of it.

i like afternoon naps yet I on no account have time to take them. yet each and every time I do, I continuously tend to oversleep so I finally end up feeling responsible that i've got wasted the day away snoozing.

Yeah, always used to get it when I was a kid. If it's the middle of the day then the easy answer is don't go back to sleep. by the time it's proper bedtime you'll have forgotten about it.

try taking some valerian if you can. It will relax your mind, and it does help a person sleep. I doubt you will relive this dream under it's influence It is perfectly safe in the suggested doses. (Dont smell it tho...). It is a common otc non presciption herb.

Maybe God is trying to tell you something. He could be knocking at the door of your heart. Open the door and let Him in.
