Whats the difference between a private practice doctor and a doctor who works at the hospital? And I have seen Private Practice doctors and doctors who work for the hospital work in the same hospital, how does that work?

Private practice physicians are doctors that have their own offices throughout the town whereas the doctors that work in the hospital are called hospitalists (depending on the kind of set up the hospital has). A hospitalist is a doctor (usually an Internal Medicine doctor) that takes shifts of 12 hours during the week to take care of patients that are admitted to the hospital and communicate with the patient's private physician (usually a primary care physician is where this kind of set up is seen) during the patient's stay in the hospital. The hospitalist stays in contact with the patient's doctor regularly to make sure that the patient is getting the care necessary for their stay in the hospital.

In the Medical School setting a doctor who works in the hospital can be teaching Medical students (meaning they aren't doctors yet), and residents (these are students that are now have the doctorate degree and are licensed in the State where they are going to do their specialty program training).

It can be very confusing also because some doctors that are in private practice still see patients in the hospital but in some of your bigger cities they defer to the doctors mentioned in the first paragraph. But as I said it all depends on how the hospital is set up which is another reason it can be so confusing.
