He's the right man for the job. No one knows more about the current state of middle eastern affairs then Tony Blair. Hopefully he will have a positive affect gaining allies in the region.

"Is anything more ridiculous than Tony Blair being a Middle East peace envoy?"
Well, Bush is president.
Cheney is vice president.
I'd say those are more rediculous.

Sure there is something more ridiculous.
How about the fact some people still believe there are honest politicians. Everyone knows the last one died around the end of the Neanderthal era (for evolutionists) or in the great flood (for religionists).
Or, how about a politician who does wrong, and gets rewarded with a promotion and a 30% increase (projected) in salary (Netherlands)
Or, .. ah never mind, this would become too long if i continued.
So, in short, yes, there are more ridiculous examples.

that was my reaction when I firsrt heard of it.
And it shows the delusional level the clowns of the Bush administration are at.
Blair the illegal invader and occupiar of Iraq is being asked to be taken as a neutral observer to broker a peace between Israel and Palestinians.
Gee, I wonder if whose side he will favor.

Bush tried to get him a job at "Walmart" as a door greeter, but Walmart said NO THANKS!
So this was the only position Bush could find for his pet "Poodle."

Well he helped fix the Northern Ireland problem and that had been going on for years so he probably is the right man for the job.
