The absurdity is that throughout history we as human beings have fought so many wars over our religious beliefs. It's incredible that although no legitimate religion preaches war, men have so many times interpreted their beliefs to mean that they must fight to the death to defend them. The civil war in Iraq is a perfect example:
"Our god, though only slightly different than yours, is better than yours so therefore you must die."
HELLO...? Why don't they realize that God/Allah (one in the same) is not happy that they are killing each other over him?
Sometimes its embarrassing to be a human being...

All people are religious in a particular way. Even you and me. Santayana calls religion "the grasp of an ultimate concern." Religion is a worldview, an interpretation of the world that permeates every aspect of the individual's behavior. Sometimes people who call themselves a part of a certain religion don't necessarily uphold those beliefs, but rather use the congregational aspect of it for their own gain in one way or another.
You must understand that people will wage wars for one reason or the other. Wars are very simple, if one really gets to the root of them. They are typically over territory and resources, and are easily waged if a clear difference between people can be seen. That difference can be anything, most people will simply use religion as that clear divide between peoples. Human beings are a violent and adversarial animal by nature, and we will always have wars, no matter what the explanation. You see, religion could be completely done away with, but there would still be war, but waged under different auspices for different reasons.
Hope this helps.

Because we live in a schizophrenic world, part in the 21st century and part in the 14th. You have families performing
" honor killings " on family members, by family members and gang rapes on women because some "tribal elder " ordered it.
A large part of the terrorist problem stems from tribal beginnings. I also hear the term warlord used a lot, and all I can think is "warlord, what do you mean warlord? ", what is this the
era of Ghengis Kahn?, then I think, well in a way yes it is.

Because they are self-aware, humans, by their nature, are spiritual beings. How that spirituality defines itself varies greatly, but that is not the point. And not all religions end in war, so don't generalize. Humans will always seek answers beyond that which can be measured in a test tube.

Rousseau had the answer. Religion is a necessity for civilization. When science can explain all, then it will go away but that is a long, long way off as science is still in its infancy.

Because they arent absurd to people who arent too lazy to actually try to understand and have the capacity to.
Being an adult isnt license to be an idiot, and only an idiot would completely write off thousands of years of human history and knowledge on the assumption that they know better.
