its a mix of dead skin cells, traffic dust, pet dander and hair
the best way to get rid of it is to buy a good quality air purifier and put it on whatever room you like, you will almost never need to dust and if you have allergies they are excellent
if you dont have the money to do that then use a slightly damp cloth to dust with, that way the dust will stick to the cloth and it wont fly back into the air, or you could use the small round attachment from your vacuum cleaner to dust with, i use a combination of all three and i almost never have to dust!!!!! and when i do it only takes a few seconds!

You answered your own question....you say you have sand surrounding both sides of your house and you keep the windows open. That is the source of all that dust in your house. You need to either close the windows or put fans in the window which blow the air from the inside to the outside, not vice versa. Perhaps that would prevent the dust from coming in the windows. If, like you say, you have alot of dust everywhere, you will need to clean more often; otherwise, you are just recirculating the same dust as your family goes about their daily business. Also, have a house rule: NO shoes in the house. Believe it or not, 80% of the dirt on your floors come from your shoes. So, no shoes, no dirt/sand. None of us want to clean every room every day. Just pick one room a day and dust/clean that room thouroughly. Then move to the next room the next day and so on. Next thing you know, your house won't seem so dusty all at once. P.S. Using a hot wash cloth on the children's face will loosen any dirt that is clogging their pores.

Its mostly dead skin cells and everything else youc an think of contributes to dust. If you live close to a main road or in a city you will have more dust due to the higher levels of pollution.
Im afraid the only thing you can do is keep dust busting lol and maybe try exfoliating lol

I vacuum daily that helps keep the dust down, I also wipe down the ceiling fans and when I change my bedding I give a quick vacuum to the mattress.. I 've found fancy sprays and dust polish makes dust worse and I like to use a plain microfiber cloth... No chemicals and the dust sticks to it.. Just don't put it in the washer w/ fabric softner or dryer w/ dryer sheets.. I dust about 1 a week... It also helps when you do your "spring cleaning" to wipe the walls, sills, window frames with a diluted solution of Murphy's oil soap/water. I do this 1 to 2x per year depending on my dust... I also change my a/c filter every month/ furnace filter as well..

Household dust is made up of everything and also includes dust mites (microscopic insects). The best way to get rid of it is to always have a dust cloth on hand.

Dust is made of just about everything. Household dust is composed primarily of
things like human skin and hair, waxes, pollen, mold, fungi, lichen, tiny
particles of wood, paint, fibers from fabrics such as wool, nylon, rayon,
acrylic, foam rubber, sheet
rock, plant and vegetable matter, insect parts, and of course every form of
pollution such as auto and industrial emissions, heavy hydrocarbon waste from
your oil or gas heater, even tiny bits of metal debris from door hinges or any
place where metal and friction meet, lots of food waste, and loads of paper
fiber
all you can do is clean it up. try getting a good air filter for you A/C and keep up with changing it. dust with a wet cloth and then vacuum using a filtering vacuum.
