Your parents should always be a part of your life and although you're 22, you're still their daughter. Don't push them away, but if they really are meddling, just gently remind them that your relationship should now move up a gear into that of an adult child/parent relationship. Let them know that you will always value their wisdom and advice, but need to learn to live as an adult and this involves sometimes making your own choices, even though that may sometimes mean making mistakes - they can't always protect you. Build-up a good, friendly relationship with them, recognise the need of the regular contact in order to do this, and time will see this new relationship established. I live 2,000 miles from my 4 adult children, but would be lost without regular contact. (Have always tried to make a conscious effort never to meddle though! - difficult sometimes!). Good luck

I'm 40 soon and my mum especially still likes to try and tell me what I should/shouldn't do. From how I should live my marriage, how I should decorate my home and so on to how I'm going wrong bringing up my kids. However, you will realise, probably when you have your own kids, that it's hard to let go. I survive because I know deep down she means well. Try to find some way of living with it or talking to her. Try not to be too resentful. Best of luck.

My mum helps me when i need her help and she takes me and my daughter with her to my nans on 2 out of 4 Sundays so she gets to spend time with our daughter.
She never meddles and lets us live our own life.
I would like to see her more but she works really hard and if we did see more of her, we would probably argue, lol.
We get on a lot better since i left home at 18.
I have disowned my dad, so there is no friction there.

a lot of times we will feel that we do not want our parents to meddle into our lives.most of the time we want them to stay away and forget about our existence...i think that 100% of the time ,we say this at least three times a week...but the truth is that even though we may say it now but the truth is that they will always be in our life and that we may not want them to meddle...there will be a time when we do want them to be in our lives...
trust me on this...
been there.done it.and survived...

Yes, I am 30 & up until recently they were really controlling, but I suddenly thought enough was enough & I don't have much to do with them now. I am much happier only having occasional contact with them. Put your foot down - it's your life afterall.

That's what parents are for, just listen, nod be pleasant , then do it your way,Yes my parents were still part of my life until they both passed away, & I have to say they supported me all the way through my life, & NEVER said ' I told you so '

im 22, i only have my mum, she only has me, she is my mum, i dont push her away.
*edit*
jesus some of you are so cold! they are yur parents, they brought you up, held you as a baby, now you dont want nothing to do with them, you lot should think about things like this, one day, something might happen, then you will wish every single day that you didnt push them away!
Instead of moaning about your parents that just love you, how about going to give them a cuddle and say you love them?
grr
