I was in a pet shop playing with a flowerhorn cichlid(luo han yu) and it was following my finger as they are known to do. My finger was about 4 inches above the water and suddenly it jumped out of the water like a dolphin and bit my finger with its sharp teeth, leaving scratch marks(but no blood).

It isn't that common, but it's not that rare. Cichlids are accomplished jumpers and apparently, very accurate too. In the wild it would probably attempt to catch insects hanging above the water from branches.
