If the surge works, Wouldnt that mean Pelosi & co. were wrong? Including the hundreds of liberals on here bashing Bush & the troops? Wouldnt that mean a sure defeat for liberals in 2008? Wonder what the libs will pull next to try and stop this... another "all nighter, won't sleep till theres defeat" another symbolic vote, a meeting with moveon.org, whats next???

Actually, if we leave, and the Sunnis win, they will take care of Al Queda.

If the Shia win, the Shia will also take care of Al Queda.

Al Queda cannot win the civil war, since it is just a minor group that everyone sort of hates.

If Al Queda ever gets a foothold in any country, we can take them out easily.

So, we are not in Iraq because of Al Queda. If we were worried about Al Queda, we would be in Pakistan, and we certainly wouldn't be supporting Al Queda in Lebanon. I think we have negotiated a deal with Al Queda. We accepted their demands to remove troops from Saudi Arabia and allowed the oil price to rise. These were Bin Laden's stated reasons for attacking the US and he has got what he has wanted. I think the bigger worry of the US is how to maintain a presence in Iraq and keep good oil terms if the Shia come to power.

Al Qaeda is not the primary problem in Iraq. CIA director estimates 10% of deaths in Iraq from fighting are Al Qaeda's responsibilities. The problem is that with the fall of Iraq has come the start of essentially a civil war between rival factions intent on destruction and death to promote their own goals.

It's the Republicans' war now... I guess they can do what they want. Until there are enough votes to override a veto, the GOP owns this war. Good luck - you broke it, you own it.

Why are hawks so demanding of more time for the surge to work when more time for inspections that would have prevented this appalling mess was out of the question?

I guess since Al Qaeda was created by the United State's CIA and with the help of the CIA's equivalent in Britain and Pakistan then it is only right that we end the mess that we started.

i see your point...what's a few more dead soldiers and iraqi civilians worth anyway, as long as cheney/bush can keep putting on a happy face about the whole mess, huh?

btw, i don't waste my time on any 'news' outlet owned by murdoch...while every paper editorializes, only murdoch does so in 'straight news' stories

If we do that then we might actually win *gasp!* And we cant possibly let that happen. its better we are humiliated and waste the lives of our troops than allow President Bush to be right.
