I've always gone for Playtax Gentle Glide, even when I was pregnant, those held. They did me justice, i'm sure they would do the same for you!!
MIDOL. Midol saved my life man..take midol to get rid of cramps, and for hormones, warn everyone a week ahead to STAY OUT OF YOUR WAY! lol.

For tampons I prefered Ob because there was no applicator to mess with.

Because of how bady it sounds like your cramps are I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation.

The right age for a pap smear (and a primary care physician can also do this) is 18 or 21 or if one is sexually active whichever comes first.

But because of what is going on with your periods, I would start with your primary care physician (the doctor you go to take care of things like colds and such). If and when they recommend a gynecologist I would recommend a female physician because it will be your first visit and I think you will feel more comfortable talking to a female doctor about these issues.

You are free to e-mail or IM me off site as well if you have more questions for me about this issue.

tampax pearls are my fave, but in my experience the usual cause for leaking is not having it far enough in. If it's right up against your cervix it catches the blood as soon as it comes out and doesn't give it a change to find the folds in the walls where it can slip by.

As for going to the gyno they say to start at age 18 or when sexually active, but you can go anytime you feel comfortable.

I like Tampax Pearl super.

They seem to work the best, but just to be sure I wear a pantyliner just in case they leak.

&& you're not the only one who has a problem with them leaking before they're full! Its ridiculous. It used to happen to me a lot when I used Playtex Gentel Glide.

I like Tampax WAY better [:

About the gyno, if you're not sexually active then you don't need to go until you are 18.

Good luck [:

Use a pad with the tampon for the heavier days...I can't tell you how many undies I threw away when I was your age...just couldn't take any mess.
You really should see a GYN now to get yourself on track with yourself. Your doc can further help you track your cycle.
For cramps...if they are really annoying, I take a warm bath and soak. During the day, tylenol works well.
Welcome!
