Who considers them selfish?
I think everyone is entitled to live their lives according to their own choices. Don't want marriage or kids - fine. Its one option, and if that's what you want, go for it.
But I do consider it selfish for anyone who chooses to share their life with someone, maybe has kids, but still wants to live as if they were single and without responsibilities. That would be selfish and shallow.

What you are referring to is a double-standard. If a man goes to a topless bar or a strip club with his friends, he's considered sexist, but if a woman goes with her girlfriends to a male strip revue, its just ladies night out. The same sort of double standard holds true in the relationship/career arena. The key is to not care what other people label you. You really have to be pleased with your own actions. If you run around trying to make everyone happy, you'll never be happy yourself.

Personally, I don’t know anyone at all who considers a man shallow and/or selfish *merely* because he's a hard worker (that's generally a good thing) and/or he doesn’t want to have kids (that's a personal choice).
