Besides opening your computer to see how many empty slots you have I recommend you download "Everest Home Edition". It is a small, free program that will give you ALL the information about your computer you need, incl. ram! It is a very helpful program for finding out about other details such as audio, graphics etc.

First you need to know what kind of ram your PC's motherboard is capable of supporting. If you know that information you are ready.....

Unscrew the side panel first. After you have this side panel off look inside your PC. Get yourself familiar with the hardware pieces.

The item you are looking for is most likely 1 stick of RAM. The RAM stick is roughly 4-5 inches long and about 1 inch thick. It will be located most likely real close to the CPU.

Once you have located it, Be careful. Use a static wrist band if you can get your hands on one. This prevents any stray shocks or volts of static electricity from energizing your PC while its in a stable/off state.

Have fun and good luck !

Ram memory sticks plug into the motherboard. I would recommend that you first go online to Crucial at:

They have a system which can scan your computer and tell you how much memory you can add and what type it needs to be. You will also see pictures of memory sticks so you will know what to look for when you open your PC.

This is a question which is impossible to answer without revealing your motherboard model.

Anyway, RAM is very easy to spot. They are very thin and somewhat long. There are usually latches around it, you just need to push it down and it will pops up.
