More details needed!
Animals can collapse for any number of reasons! He may have been ill over time, e.g from a parasite infestation or from gut stasis, he may have eaten something toxic in the garden. Actually there are so many possible causes it's pointless to list them all....
Is the rabbit still alive? Did you take it to a vet? This would also be the best person to help you figure out what happened!

Rabbits, when content seem to flop over and just die... what they are really doing is laying down (although forcefully) and stretching out for a nap... It's quite comical...
