It depends on what kind of vacation you want, We say Egypt has it all and its not just a Slogan.

You might like archeology so you should head South to Luxor and Aswan.

If you like the Beaches, the sea and the Sun Then Its Sharm Elsheikh and Hurghada.

If you like Religious tourism then you can walk the tracks of Moses during the Exodus in Sinai or the Saint Family's journey to Egypt...

Cairo and Alexandria are cosmopolitant cities with vibrant cultural events, gastronomy and night life.

If you like nature then the experience of a Safari in the Desert, a visit to the Oasis or one of our many nature protectorates might be appealing.

History is our strong point... Ancient Egypt, Greeko Roman Era, Coptic Egypt, Moslem Egypt and more Modern events like WWII relics in Alamein.

You could also do all of these if you have time (lots of time) or just get a feel of it in a quick tour.

As Balsam said an organized tour is a good choice.

To Frances: Different rates are legally charged they are not rip offs... and I see it fair... our treasures are our national heritage built by our forefathers and as Egyptians we shouldn't even pay anything at all to see them...
For foreigners the issue is different. the Ministry of culture needs resources to run and maintain our Museumes and archeological finds for the good of the Entire Humanity... it doesn't over charge tourists since the tickets' prices are comparable to international prices elswhere... But it does exempt Egyptians from paying most of that price for the above mentioned reasons.
Making an Egyptian citizen buy tickets for tourists on the reduced rates is considered fraud and you might get yourself in legal trouble.
Please do respect our regulations if you decide to visit us... As you would expect us to abide by your laws in your country.

Thank you

Edit to Silent Tear: Its part of the experience... you travel to see different things if it was a carbon copy of everywhere else why would anyone bother to make the trip... Yes the desert is dusty... yes the sea water is salty... Yes the jungle is full of bugs. But what would the desert be without sand, what would the sea be without salt... and what would the jungle be without life.

My advice to you... go have a vacation in a hospital... there you can guarantee the sanitation and hygene.

Enjoy your life.

Visiting Egypt is a wonderful experience. There is nothing else like it. You are safe and welcomed by all. Egypt has always since ancient times opened its arms to visitors. Egypt has one third of world's antiquities. Luxor has two thirds of Egypt's antiquities. Thousands of tourists visit Egypt every day. Egypt has besides the antiquities beaches, resorts, cruises in the Nile and much more. Its friendly atmosphere is like nowhere else. Book your trip with an agency, it does not cost more and they take all the responsibilities off your shoulder. Trust them, they will take care of you and your whole trip as early as you land at the airport till you leave. Trust your guide, they are all qualified and trustworth. Do not hesitate, it is a wonderful idea.

I will not tell you of my actaul experiences in Egypt, but hope this helps you to understand what a wonderful place it is. I have travelled to many places in my life time and like to experience a new country on each vaction. I have always intended to retire abroad. I would be happy to learn another lanuage but not another alphabet or very different culture and religous beliefs. I changed my mind.

I went to Egypt once. I went to Egypt a second time and bought an apartment. I hope to retire there.

If you are a female make sure you are going there with a male. Also, make sure your arms and legs are covered or it is considered and invitation to grope

They also charge heaps more for foreigners to enter anything. If you can get a local friend to books your tickets to get them at a reasonable price
