Circumcision is rarely needed for a tight foreskin or in emergencies where the foreskin closes up. Otherwise, it's not necessary. Here are the risks of circumcision.

Circumcision = loss of sensitivity according to new study

The USA is the last advanced nation doing it, but rates have fallen down from over 90% in the 1960s to as low as 21% here in California currently. From CNN:

Circumcision was actually promoted in the USA at first to stop masturbation (in hopes of it being tight enough to require lubes and not have skin to slide since the foreskin is already moist)

USA = highest HIV rates in advanced nations (and highest circumcision rates). CIA statistics:

The practice of circumcision is thought to have originated 8,000 to 10,000 years ago in east Africa. Circumcision is referenced in the Old Testament of the bible, in the book of Genesis, and this is perhaps the basis for the practice in the Jewish culture. Circumcision became common in the United States and England in the late 19th century, because it was thought to stop boys from masturbating. At this point in time, the United States is one of the only countries in which circumcision is still a regular procedure for all newborn boys.
As for its purpose, anthropologists surmise that circumcision was first used to protect men against infection and/or irritation due to dirt or sand getting underneath the foreskin. Circumcision continues to have religious and cultural significance for people around the world, but whether or not it still offers health benefits is an issue currently under much debate.

Circumcision proponents cite increased occurrence of urinary tract infections, STDs and penile cancer in uncircumcised men, as well as phimosis (inability to extract the penis from the foreskin), as evidence for why the procedure is still medically relevant. On the "con" side, research suggests that proper hygiene can eliminate almost all problems associated with not being circumcised. Some people propose that circumcision decreases sexual sensitivity, although no valid research has been done on this subject. Also, some fear that the pain of the procedure psychologically affects the infants, although circumcision is now being done under local anesthesia

It will not hurt during the procedure b/c you will be given pain medication, however you will be sore for several days or even a week or so after the procedure and will be unable to have sex during that time period. After that inital period of soreness, you will be able to function normally and should have no problems what-so-ever. If you are worried about anything concerning your circumcision you should consult your doctor as he is the only one who will be able to tell you whether or not it's normal.

It can be done for Religious or medical reasons.
It is the removal of the foreskin
In babies -no memory of it being done
In older general anaestheic-obviously painful afterwards while healing.
Religious -jews moslems
Medical for 2 conditions of the foreskin
phimosis where the foreskin cannot be pulled back-too tight
paraphimosis where it is pulled back but cannot be pulled foreward

Recently it has been shown that there is a 70% REDUCTION in HIV transmission in the circumcised

Circumcision is historically and traditionally used to define which culture you are a part of. Moses was commanded by God to circumcise his son on the 7th day after birth.

The health reason is to help a male to be clean, Which can be more difficult with the folds of skin - known as foreskin - covering the end of the penis.

Does it hurt. Yes.

Some people have it done for religious reasons. Others have a very long forskin that is hard to clean and dry, this can be a cause for infection, so the excess skin is removed. I cannot tell you if it hurts as i have never had it done. Most are done when they are still babies and are to young to remember. I hope this answered your question.

Circumcision is the removal of the foreskin of the penis it may be for personal reasons such as being able to clean the penis better or for religious beliefs such as being Jewish I've herd that you loose some of the sensitivity in the tip of your penis because that's where it has been cut and most guys get circumcised as baby's so they dont remember it, I bet it hurts but I don't know I dont have a penis.

It can be for either religious or medical reasons, if its for neither of those I would not personally recommend it as it is very painful and can be very uncomfortable for some time after (getting used to not having the glans protected by the skin!).

I had it done when I was a baby, so no bad memories, as for my best friend, he had to get it done at age 14. He said its absolutely terrible, and he wishes his parents had it done for him while he was a baby.

It removes the most sensative extra skin. And you are less prone to infection, and HIV.

Of course im going to get like 50 thumbs down for saying this, but I think it is more than neccesary.

Circumcise is to remove the foreskin. I suppose it hurts. I was too young when it happened to remember.
