Is it wise to get into a real estate career now?
I know the market is slow now, but are people still getting into this field as much as before? Is this a good career choice for Mom's who want flexibility? What are the pros and cons of this job?

If your city allows you to have another job while being a realtor, then the answer is ------Why not?
If you love the industry, enjoy pwoplw, you will have a great reason to go into it already.
The only question is- what do you live on while waiting for the market to pick up?
Id say "go for it"

The ULTIMATE time to become a RE agent is just before one or some of your friends or relatives buy or sell a home. If you know that your friend, aunt, cousin or parents are considering buying or selling a home then you could time the start of your career. For example you are at Thanksgiving dinner and your grandparents talk about them wanting a smaller home to retire in and are considering a small house near the water and will start looking in the next few months. This gives you enough time to go to RE school and get licensed and join an office. Hopefully your friend or relative will want you to represent them. Going through your 1st sale with a friend or relative being your client MAY be easier for you and that one sale could help your start tremendously.

If this is not viable...then second best is in the spring or summer months at the beginning of a sellers market. Since historically a sellers market has more buzz, energy and most importantly more frequent SALE TRANSACTIONS, this is where a newcomer RE agent has a better luck or opportunity of stepping into a sale. This extra activity could have opposite effect though. It could discourage or frustrate some people depending on their personality and what atmosphere they adapt and learn in.

let me say that i have tried going into the real estate buisness already and it's very time consuming to go from the beginner stages to money comming in regularly stages. Its a job that requires a whole lot of planning to me personally. I was going to school, had a full time job and was trying to take real estate classes and found it very difficult to keep up. once i got an insight on a day in the life of a sales person i realised that it might be something i could continue later in life. So what i am saying is just make sure it's something you have time for. Good luck on whatever you choose success is up to you.

The market has been slow for about a year now and just as many people are getting into just as before i would get my license and wait for the market to go back up homes still are selling. Just dont depend on this job as a main source of income. Also the hours are great because you work your own schedule from home and at your own pace.
