I used to have an application as part of Nero Burning ROM, however, I'm often asked how to tell which discs my drive uses?

Sorry. I don't have, nor do my friends, who often ask - use/want Nero. Thanks. Is their a quick way in Windows? or via stand alone application?

The easiest way to tell is to look at the front of the drive. It will say something like: DVD+/-R/W if it is compatible with both, or DVD-R/W if it is only "-".

An alternative method is to look at its device properties in the Device Manager. It will look something like "Samsung DVD-/+R/W 48X".

Actually there are a few DVD-RW's that were designed for one or the other.

Most DVD-RW's to-day will accept both for witing and reading.

There are still DVD players that will only accept one or the other.

Do a search on Google and/or Yahoo with the model number for the specs of the DVD-RW.

Good Luck

Since you are using Nero, use the (Get system Info) command or the (Test Drive) command in the Extras panel. I believe you sould get such information there.

Your burner can burn both DVD-R and DVD+R.

I do recommend TDK DVD-R since they are more dependable media which will work on most dvd players.
