...on a whole, I would have to say yes, the movie is definitely worth seeing; however, be forewarned that the events portrayed in the film might just change your views about how you feel about the character of Hannibal Lecter, not unlike how peoples' views of Darth Vader were changed, after seeing "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith".

Although similarly visceral, expect a much more dramatically gripping and intense excursion, rather than the atypical tongue-in-cheek, edge-of-your-seat thriller, as reflected in previous 'Lecter' episodes. Also expect to forge a growing sympathy for the character; it becomes quite clear that Hannibal is reluctantly and uncontrollably caught in events that will forever affect him physically, mentally and psychologically.

In the end, you might not be able to watch "Silence of the Lambs", "Hannibal" and "Red Dragon" in the same light, again; Hannibal becomes a much more sympathetic monster, not unlike the character of Darth Vader, or if you want to go even further back, the Frankenstein Monster.

Hannibal is my very favourite out of all of them. I like the way it's focused a lot more on Hannibal Lector and you get a lot of Anthony Hopkins screentime :) plus Ridley Scott is one of my favourite directors and there are some really brilliant gore scenes! Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon are probably equal second favourites for me. Silence of the Lambs is obviously one of the best and most tense thrillers of all time, but I must admit I do love Red Dragon for how bloody disturbing it is. Plus Edward Norton, Harvey Keitel, Ralph Fiennes, Anthony Hopkins and Phillip Seymour Hoffman do make for a pretty darn impressive cast! Hannibal Rising I thought was just a below average thriller. I saw it in the cinema actually, it was alright, but not a patch on the other movies. I barely think of it as part of the franchise really. I've never seen Manhunter. I should do!! Helloooooooo Dan :D HELLO DAN! :) Aww cheers :) it was fun thank you. Miserable to be back at work! But yahoo-answers shall keep me going!! I'm going to watch Manhunter very soon I reckon :)

Sweet mercy, no. "Hannibal Rising" was one of the worst movies ever made. The guy who played young Hannibal was AWFUL - laughably so.

Save two hours of your life and do something else.

OMG yes!...You actually have to, because you root for Hanibal in this movie...it is Bizzarre!...I won't tell you, but I did not think I would like it...now I have seen it twice...
You see how he becomes demented, and some of the early parts...you can kind of understand WHY..then he turns total Hanibal, so you can hate him!!!

I thought it was great. I liked seeing how he came to become the way he was. It gives you a glimpse into his past, and you get to see him slowly becoming more and more demented. It was really interesting, and if you're a fan you'll probably like it.
