They may start with good intentions, but I really have a hard time believing that any of them remain people of honor and integrity after being there a while. I believe the power, the money, the position, and the perks ruin their righteous intentions in a very short while. I just wish someone could prove me so wrong.

Because Politics is just a BS occupation!! They have the ability to speak yet, say nothing ( if you know what I mean). Power,Fame and, CONTROL are definitely motivating factors, Oh and, money that comes with the territory. Just think of all the free stuff that politicians can receive?? Plus, the special treatment !! I doubt this is what our Founding Fathers would of appreciated !!! Let's bring back Washington, Jackson,Jefferson, Lincoln, Teddy R.,JFK, Ike, to name several !!!

I think a few manage to maintain their integrity as much as is possible thoughout their service as well. Others, unfortunately, are distracted by power, guilt, influential people, money, etc.
