They have everything they need to get back to a Super Bowl win. When they played the Colts no one thought they had a chance then, and they swept the board. They have great players on both sides of the ball and great heart. Not to mention amazing fans. They have a great chance and I hope they win it all!

As a true Steeler fan, I believe it all rests on the players execution/grasp of the new offensive/defensive schemes.
I was skeptical of the Tomlin hiring and, in my mind, the jury is still out. But, from what I've been reading, the players seem to be buying into his philosophy. We'll see how it all translates on the field.
However, I agree with the masses, this year may not be the year. But, I believe they'll turn some heads and possibly make it to the playoffs.

Not this year. Defense wins championships thats true but they have a new coach, lost key players, and are going back into the season with the same offensive problems as last year. A good but not great running game that allows for teams to drop more people back in pass coverage instead of fearing the run, hence why Big Ben suck last year. You lost a huge defensive peice in Porter b/c he not only was good but he brought an attitude to the squad. It will be interesting to see how they do when they can't score many points and have to rely on winning 10-7. They go 9-7 this year. PS--my girlfriend is from pitt so I feel for ya but its just not gonna happen. Sorry

I am a life long Steelers fan. I don't think we get there this year. There has never been a team to win the SB in a rookie coach's 1st year...too much to adjust too. they lost two big coaches on the Offensive side of the ball, (Wisenhunt, Grimm), and of course, Cowher. that's just too much turnover.
I look at it like the Chargers this year- they have more talent than ANYONE in the NFL, but with 3 new coaches, they likely won't get there either.
as far as individual pieces, I think the pieces are there. Parker has shown that he can be an every down back. the slant on him is that he can't be a "Grinding" back, and i would tend to agree. his runs are 2 yards, 2 yards, 2 yards, 2 yards, then 26 yards. he'll bust a long one every now and then, but overall, its hard for us to lean on him in Short Yardage. But he can do the job, especially if they have a good big back.
The QB position is set- Ben is an excellent QB, and he should get more support this year. the line is solid as well.
On defense, its virtually the same as last year, minus Porter. there is enough "attitude" on that D to compensate for his loss, and his play was diminishing. so far, the Steelers have been 100% right in releasing players on defense, in terms of their performance. i'll trust their judgment here.
as usual, we need our secondary to step up. we need Taylor to rebound in 2007. we need Troy to be healthy.
we should be more competitive this year, maybe even challenge for the division, but not win the Superbowl. they aren't more than a year away from being able to return, but this year seems bleak. Unfortunately...

In reply to mushki.
I agree. The refs in the Colts game were trying hard to throw it to the Colts. Maybe the Super Bowl was a bunch of "make up" calls.

It's not. Two years ago they won the worst officiated supper bowl ever. With news of the NBA ref getting busted for fixing games I really believe that game was fixed also, I did as I watched the game also. I am not a Seahawks fan either Steeler fan so there is no sour grapes in that statement. Your qb is marginal at best. Fast Willey has proven he cannot carry the load by himself. No steroid abusing Joey Porter. They suck!! They will have a hard time finding 6 wins

Only time will tell. If our secondary plays good this season, and our key players stay healthy, I believe it is possible.
