Ok, I am looking to get a pearl set for my girlfriend and saw this one. I know it is less expensive than others, but it looks like a good deal. She doesn't want one with perfectly homogeneous pearls but also not one lined with potato pearls. She always tells her friends that she wants something "elegant but humble". This is the only set I've seen that has SLIGHTLY irregular shaped pearls without being button pearls.

This would be her first pearl set (she is in college). Any comments?

I like the odd shaped pearls also even though the ones that are more harmonious in shape are better quality. The important thing to look for is the luster and color of the pearl. The luster is the shine of the pearl. And if they give off a pinkish color they are good. And remember they will be the first thing off, last thing on. And if she wears them everyday she will wear off the luster. So once a week is good. This will rub the oils from her skin on the pearls to keep them beautiful. Ok. I got side tracked. Yes it is a very beautiful set for someone in college.

They look ok in the pic, but remember you get what you pay for. Sears and Penny's both have sub-par jewelry. My husband and I made the mistake of buying our wedding rings at Sears and my engagement ring and the wedding band have both cracked and their customer service sucks. My husband always buys my jewelry at Fred Meyer Jewelers and we have never had a problem with them. He bought me a set of pearls there (Lavender) and I love them.

You know, JCPenney is pretty reputable and considering the original cost, I think it would be a good deal.

It doesn't look very nice. You can see a better pearl jewelry piece at http://www.perlunapearls.com/pearl-set/FSW-3A3X9.html
