Um... I agree with you, but how is this relevant to anything to do with you?? Americans have a higher tendancy to be obese as healthy food is taxed, thus more expensive. Think about it... If you had the choice, would you pay $1.50 for an apple, or $1.50 for 5 doughnuts? Its just the way it works there, it is stupid, yes... But complaining about it on Yahoo Answers isn't going to solve anything except make you extremely unpopular.

I still think alot of it is because we have fast cheap crappy calorie filled food on every corner.
And because we are post-industrial, meaning tons of desk jobs.
The nation is full of cars. Nobody walks anywhere. There isn't much of a need to exercise.
The clothing industry has also adjusted its sizes to make us feel less fat, I think.
Even most of our entertainment involves being staring or eating(super bowl parties, anyone?)

I agree...not about the gay and communist comment...but with children being overweight. They make these children feel like its ok...and that not everybody is skinny...well fact is humans are intended to be a certain size...and 300lbs aint it! These poor kids don't know any better and will probably have the same eating habits as they get older. With everything they are putting in foods these days it's really sad to see parents allowing their children to eat at places like McDonalds...

It's not so much that we spread lies like "being fat is a good thing." I think we try to say things like "It's not the end of the world" and "You should love yourself." Which aren't very bad things to say.
