You need to go for a walk in a Western forest--with a tree book and take a look around--or maybe just looking on the web would do the trick. It is an evergreen and yes it is related to a pine tree.

Kind of but not really, They are both conifers, but ; the fir, spruce, hemlock, and yew are trees with needles attached singularly, and pines' needles are attached in bundles. They are more like extreme cousins, and not in the immediate family.
