Yesterday my computer was fine, today was my nightmare day, the computer was empty, no files, no pictures no nothing. It was like when was brand new. I have to install everything and I don't know what happened. My husband is out of town and he will send me to the gillotine if finds out that the computer is empty. I wasn't playing around or deleting nothing, I don't know. Put it this way, I just know to turn it on and off, send emails and stuff like that but not much, so please help me! My computer is a Vista and is the last version. What could be the problems and the causes? Save my life!!!!!! God bless you!

Well , It's possible that you have some kind of virus on your system. Did you download anything on the internet recently? Have you checked your recycle bin? Do you have antivirus software on your computer?
What was the last major thing you did on your computer before this problem occurred?
If you can answer these questions specifically, I may be able to help. You can reach me at timmy_adu@yahoo.com so that I will communicate directly.
Don't worry, we'll figure it out.

You could be a victim of a hacker. Try using system restore. Restore the pc to an earlier time, like 1 day before you logged on. If that don't work, turn off pc. wait 10 seconds then turn it back on. Right after you turn on pc, push F8 button on the keyboard several times until a screen comes up that shows different options. Use the keyboard down arrow to scroll down to ( LAST KNOWN CONFIGURATION THAT WORKED CORRECTLY). When that is highlighted, press ENTER on the keyboard. Wait until the logon screen appears. Then log on and check your files or pics or something that you know is supposed to be there.Vista has a few bugs on it and sometimes things can and will go wrong. Like I said, your pc may have been attacked by a hacker This procedure may or may not resolve the problem. Best of luck to you!

This is obviously not something that you did. Do you have virus protection and/or spyware protection? Because this appears to be a virus that deleted your files. Open the Recycle Bin and see if there are any files in there. Have you downloaded any files recently, or click on any IM links that "did not do anything." Due to the fact that you have described yourself as a novice computer user, I would contact a local computer service company or the store where you bought the computer (If it came with Vista, it was purchased less than a year ago and should be under warranty. ) Don't use you affected PC any more than you have to.

i'm not sure of your problem but if you say that you lost all data even your os and needs to reinstall you might want to check for bad sectors or virus. i dont think that your computer will reformat itself unless someone else did it.

try to restore your system ,
- just boot on your windows os cd and choose to repair if you cant login to windows

OR

- use system restore if you can login to your windows
