That's what I was told. Or does it mean "antagonist"?

It is true.
Nemesis means antagonist. Antagonists can be nuisances or opposing forces.
Arch means top or highest. There is no greater opposition than an enemy.

I always thought it meant ones main or worst enemy. But I guess that is archenemy.

This was the dictionary definition for nemesis and I guess it does mean enemy like I thought.

Main Entry: nem·e·sis
Pronunciation: 'ne-m&-s&s
Function: noun
Etymology: Latin, from Greek
1 capitalized : the Greek goddess of retributive justice
2 plural nem·e·ses /-"sEz/ a : one that inflicts retribution or vengeance b : a formidable and usually victorious rival or opponent
3 plural -eses a : an act or effect of retribution b : BANE 2

Now you have taught me something about arch nemesis. Thank you.

Archenemy (all one word) basically is your primary enemy or foe.
Nemesis was the Greek goddess of retributive justice (or revenge, more or less), so an arch nemesis would be someone who is out to get revenge on someone else regardless of what it takes.

Arch Nemesis is, like, the -main- enemy of a character.

And essentially, antagonist, arch nemesis, and enemy, all mean the same thing. :P

Nemesis was the name of a "character" in Greek mythology. The word really means "righteous indignation."

Someone who is your nemesis is more than your enemy. He/She is your un-doing! Your nemesis can be a person, but it can also be a characteristic within yourself. "Her nemesis was her deep-seated jealousy of other beautiful women."
