The Yankees have an edge in their cushier schedule (almost 3/4 of their games against the dregs of the AL, such as KC and Tampa Bay), but the Yanks don't have the pitching talent to keep up when they come up against Boston directly, as they do 12 times before season's end.

Besides, no team with a double-digit gap on memorial day has ever come back to claim the division.

To what the person above me wrote.

Um, 1 team has come back from a double digit deficit in the standings. And the happened to be the New York Yankees. Even though it was 1978, it still means it could happen.

Oh, and the Yankees win percentage after the all-star break since 1999 its 67%. So that means they've won 2/3 of their games after the all star break. And if i recall certain people on ESPN saying that the Yankees would need to win about half their games in order to pass the Red Sox. So if I were the Sox I would be somewhat worried. Yankees ALWAYS get hot int he 2nd half, while the Red Sox ALWAYS tail off and end up losing the division. Its history, and you cant argue that. So the Red Sox should be very worried, especially the way the 2 teams are playing rite now. The Yankees are winning and the Red Sox have been losing.

Now is the time for the Yankees to dominate since they will be playing teams whose record is under .500 for the next week until they go to Cleveland to face the Indians. Scoring 21 runs against a team like the Devil Rays isn't that big of a deal since the Devil Rays are the worst team in the majors. The only reason the Red Sox should be worried about the Yankees is because the Yankees have beat and are facing pretty bad teams and the Red Sox are in a major slump right now.

In a way yes and in a way no. First of all i would like to say I am a sox fan so don't yell at me for "believing" too much. Yes because they do have one of the best SS of all time(Jeter) and one of the best home run hitters most of the people alive have ever seen(A-Rod). But on the other hand no because this week the Red Sox beat the White Sox 3 times in a row. Also tomorrow against Cleveland they get their starter named Jon Lester back from the DL who was plagued with cancer after having an awesome year. So out of all that do i think the Yanks will be in the playoffs? No The Red Sox are hitting a hot streak and i think whoever comes in second in the Indians-Tigers race will be wild card

The Red Sox have nothing to worry about at this point. They are doing good right by staying on top and the other teams, including the Yankees are still behind alot. The Yankees still have the wild card to deal with. Not just trying to top the Red Sox.

the red sox have nothing to worry about, seeing as they have been warming up again. i am a red sox fan, but i try not to be biased. the yankees are too inconsistent to count on winning the division. i mean, if we go back to friday night, they got beaten 15-5! to the worst team in baseball. sure, they won 21-4 today, but a 21-4 win is just the same as an 8-5 win on the standings board. as l said, red sox are warming up again, and getting lester back will make our rotation even more unstoppable. i do not hate the yankees that much, but even a real yankee fan would agree with me that the yankees are inconsistent.

also big wiggle... red sox have been losing? sure in our past 12 it hasnt looked great, but we just swept the white sox, and we have the second best record in the majors.

sure, theres a long way to go, but as everyones said, pitching is the key. the red sox easily have the best rotation in baseball, along with a great bullpen. in history, red sox have declined, because pitching has broken down. this year, i disagree.

The season is a long way from over. Yankee pitching will be the key to this race. Obviously the Yankee bats are producing now but it will come down to consistently good starting pitching in late August and September. It appears the Red Sox will have an advantage in this area.

its funny how the Yankees have won the AL east pennant for the last five or more years. and the only way the redsox would get to play is by the wild card. now the Yankees have Clemons and also a more healthier lineup and pitching staff it should be fun to watch, however if history is true to form, you will the redsox crumble again. i mean the Yankees were over 14 down before when Bucky dent hit the home run that left the redsox missing the playoffs again. also the Yankees have won 4 out the last six and that was before clemons, against the redsox. so the redsox are always trying to find ways to beat the Yankees and they will keep trying. the wildcard was invented only to let the redsox play postseason

I really love how the yankee haters come up with these remarks. Roger Clemens has been pitching decently lately. Andy Petite was one of the best pitchers in the first half of the season. Chein Ming Wang has 10 wins and has pitched brilliantly. The Yankees problems were that they had an inconsistent offensive and the injuries they suffered in the beginning of the season. I still believe they will make the playoffs as the wildcard team. I feel like Phil Hughes will be the best pitching acquisition in the AL and I think that should put them over the top.

I wouldn't worry. First of all with the team the yanks have they should be scoring 21 runs every game and they dont. their pitching is horrible and there offense is streaky. Second they beat the tampa bay devil rays ummm at best a triple A team with all young an unexperienced players. Those are the teams they should beat up on and they did now. When they play good teams they play like crap and sorry yankee fans but that will NOT get you into the playoffs...have fun watching the mets in the world series.
LETS GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!!
