Mostly, I miss former GM Gerry Hunsicker, who did a better job than incumbent Purpura has done so far.
BTAIM... this season was pre-doomed, as it was going to be Biggio's 3000 Quest, and the finale to the Killer Bs era. Which it has been.
At most, I'm hoping Purpura has been sketching out what the 2008 team will look like -- other than Oswalt, Berkman, Pence, and Lee, I don't much care who remains -- and is figuring out how to clear the deadwood, including a tasteful way of pushing Bidge out the door if he thinks he's going to hang around Carlton/Larkin style. (Hint: wrap it up, Craig. Get your three plunks to pass Jennings and wait a few years for the call from upstate NY.)
Sell (trade) what they can for what they can get, let kids play, see what happens, and look to 2008. I'd rate this year's team as "disappointing" but actually it's right about where I had expected.

I've loved and cheered for those guys since the early 1980's, back when they had Andy Ashby, Glenn Davis, Mike Scott, Billy Doran....
They frustrate me greatly - with all due respect to Biggio, they need to move forward. Their offense will be rotten as long as the keep Ausmus behind the plate and let Biggio keep taking at bats from the younger kids. Burke will be solid at 2B when he gets more playing time, and they have some kids coming up that can take a starting spot from Woody Williams.

I LOVE them!
Sure, I have my own criticisms of some of the pitching staff, the offense production, etc, but I'm a fan in good times and bad and I love 'em!

I think they need to spend a few bucks to get their bullpen straightened out and set a fixed lineup without Biggio in it.

They were better back in the 80's and alot more fun to watch when games were played in the Astrodome.
