A false negative result (negative reading when you actually are pregnant) is common, but a false positive is extremely rare.
When you urinate on a test stick, it activates dye that moves across the testing area. If the hormone HCG is present, the dye will stick to the test line. If the hormone is not present, the test line repels the dye. Either way, the control line shows up and you then have a negative or positive reading.
The HCG hormone is ONLY produced by your body when you are pregnant, except in extremely rare cases of a certain tumor that produces the exaxt same hormone.
Often times, women who get a positive result and then their "period" starts are actually experiencing a very early miscarriage. Had they not tested early, they would never even known they were pregnant. An egg can be fertilized and begin making the HCG hormone, but then fail to implant which will result in a period. As tests become more and more sensitive, this is being seen more and more often (it is estimated that as many as 50% of pregnancies end in miscarriage).
Yes, the tests-when used properly-are very accurate, especially in regards to a positive reading.

No, as the test said it is 99% accurate! There is a very very very small chance that it is a false positive, thats generally only if you read the test after the recommended time, etc! Just sit back and enjoy it, but just make sure that you get the follow up with your doctor! Congratulations! ENJOY!!

Yep! I did. I had a positive test. I thought I was pregnant. I got a blood test by a doctor and they said that I was not pregnant. I wanted to be pregnant so I was very disappointed. I hope you get what you want!

False positives are reallly, really, really unlikely.
You can rejoice in your positive test. It's a good indicator that a baby is on the way.
Good luck!

generally speaking there are no false positives. Now it can happen if the test malfunctions or your hormone levels are messed up.
