To achieve power through the legitimate organs of the State, as Hitler did, it was useful to demonise an identifiable group of people. People are more likely to support a demagogue if he can convince the populace that they are in immediate danger. Jews and Communists were ideal for this. Communists were to blame for street fighting, from which the noble Nazis protected the populace wit their own thugs. The Jews were "responsible" for the economic woes of Germany.
The irrational hate of outsiders is also a powerful motivator and unifier. If everyone is united in hate for a particular group it is easy to manipulate the people. "Jew" becomes a code word for legitimate mob action. We all like to be a member of a legitimate mob. we like to know we are thinking the same thing as everyone else.
For a modern example, substitute "terrorist" for "Communists" and "Jews".

He needed a scapegoat during a time of economic crisis. He helped Germany recover from the economic crisis and got a lot of people to listen to him. He also fame to power by arresting those who opposed the Nazi Party, which prevented them from voting and thus, making it so the party rose to power. The Jews have been scapegoats for centuries. He felt they were impure, and wanted to eliminate them.
It was rumored that his father was Jewish (Jews only consider one to be Jewish if your mother is or if you convert), and his father abused his mother. Hitler was close to his mother and she died of breast cancer, and her doctor was Jewish. Plus, a Jew voted against him entering the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, which he wanted to be accepted to.

Hitler believed the jews were impure and wanted one "perfect" race/culture. He convinsed the German people that the Jews were responsible for all the wars in the world. It was one big anti-semetic lie.

They felt they were the cause of the depression and were envious of their wealth.
They were like the Poles, Slavs, Russians and Gypsies (Roma) all classed as lesser species.
Today we would call it ethnic cleansing.
