As Heidegger put it, the ultimate question of Metaphysics is: "Why is there something, anything at all, rather than Nothing?" ... Well, some of us have been working on that.
As for the mundane psychological connotations of "Why" I would either have to refer you to Abbot and Costello's "Who", or else "The Evolution Itself". ;-)
