My computer's RAM is 254MB (Pentium4, winXP[desktop]), and I'm not sure if having more RAM would speed up the game.I think my desktop itself is much slower than my friend's laptop (RAM, 1GB), so I would like to know if RAM would speed my computer as whole. My graphic card isn't too bad, and I'm not using my RAM too much on other stuffs while playing the game. And if I do buy RAM memory, what should I look for ? Any answers apprieciated (T^T)!

RAM is an awesome way to help better upgrade your computer. But before you take the plunge into buying a few sticks, there are a few ground rules to keep in mind:

Always buy in sets of two
Check your motherboard, so as to not overload your computer with RAM
If you'll be doing heavy gaming with your new RAM, do NOT buy VauleRAM
Make sure your system can handle it (will all the proper heating and things settled

Other than that, RAM will help speed up the process of your games, and really everything that your computer runs. I upgraded mine about a year ago-and I would recommend everyone to add a few more sticks in. And fyi, they're very easy to install, buy them, turn off and open your computer. Stick 'em in where the old ones were, or if you have multiple slots, put them there-and plug and play.

For shopping: I would suggest Newegg.com, happy searching!

1. More RAM will definitely help, up to a point. Most programs (32-bit) can't address more than about 3 GB of RAM anyway, so going above 3 GB may not help your game.

2. The kind and amount of RAM you should get depends on your motherboard. You would need to look up what kind you need (DDR, DDR2. etc...), and how much your motherboard can support (not more than 2 GB, I would guess).

3. For some games, more RAM is simply not enough. They demand extra processing power, which more RAM cannot always help alleviate. You may want to look into a replacement processor as well (a 3.0 Ghz Pentium 4 can be had for about 80 dollars, and may help even more than a RAM upgrade).

Yep, you'll get a big speed increase if you upgrade your RAM. 256 MBs is pretty low these days for any serious gaming, so I'd recommend upgrading it to at least 1 GB.

There are alot of different types and interfaces and such, so I'd suggest going to this site (it's one of the best RAM manufactures in the business):

http://www.kingston.com

Once you go there, click on the Memory search, enter the make of your computer, and it will give you a list of the available RAM (in different sizes) that will work with your system, as well as links to buy it online.

Hope this helps. Happy gaming! :)

Yes ram will speed up game, however 254mb isn't very much ram to play games on these days. Look for the speed on the memory chip label such as pc3200 this is just an example so you know what to look for when you go to buy RAM

It would depend mostly on what games you are trying to play.
Windows XP alone doesn't run very happily on that low amount of memory, and for most games today the recommended minimum is 1 GB with 2 GB preferred.
Although there is a point where more memory will not help you anymore, since hard disk swapping wouldn't be a problem but the physical limitations of your computer itself (processor, etc)

Yes, adding some more RAM will help a bit, but you should really think about getting a better graphics card. that would help alot too. Celeron is a pretty crappy processor but 2.8ghz is pretty fast. If you ever happen to get a new computer, try to get an AMD processor. AMD is a gaming processor and is awesome!

Gameing is very Ram Intensive and therefor you will have much much better response with more RAM.
256 megs of ram is very low for just about any computer nowadays. 512 is in most basic computers and gaming computers have up to 2 gigs.
