When my tank gets full of to much algae, i just use Room light for a week and do 5%-10% water changes every day after scrubbing the sides. It always works

To prevent it try to keep the light on less than 10 hours in the day, and when buying a light try to make sure the light is a pinkish color those usually prevent algae growth.

Good luck!

Your fish won't mind, as long as they are not in total darkness. You may be over feeding, which produces excessive amounts of nitrates. Water changes will help, too. There are many different types of algae, and not all will respond to the darkness. However, it won't hurt your fish to try natural control. Make sure your tank is away from a window. Some types of algae will be kept at bay by keeping live plants in your tank, too. Good luck!

NO harm what so ever! They don't need the light. It's for YOU to see them,or,for PLANTS to live. The light will induce the algae to grow quickly. Feed less,do water changes and leave off the light for 2 weeks.

Nope, won't hurt them at all, but it probably won't kill of the algae either. Unless you combine the lack of light with other measures, you will still have the algae. Black beard algae is not that easy to kill.

No, fish only get stressed if the light is on too much. Fish don't need any light at all. The only reason tanks come with lights is because us humans think it looks nicer. The fish will be just as happy if you never had the light on.

If it is a fluorescent bulb, no. If it is an incandescent bulb, it may raise the temperature to a harmful level. Other than that, it will only promote algae growth.
