If someone is killed by the law/government via capital punishment (gas chamber, firing squad, lethal injection, etc) can their dependents or surviving family members claim their life insurance policy?

It depends on the life insurance policy terms and conditions.

You should read the exclusions section of the life insurance policy in question. If there is a specific exclusion applying to this type of cause of death, there may not be coverage.

However, if there is no exclusion in the policy for death by one of these causes, there should be coverage.

Also, there is a Incontestable Clause in almost every life insurance policy that says, after the policy is in force two years, the company cannot void it because of misrepresentation or concealment by the insured in obtaining the policy. So, if you lied on the application the company can cancel the policy in the first two years or contest the payment to your beneficiary.

I hope that helps! Best of luck to you.

Depends on the policy. I would imagine the life insurance companies have thought of that one, and that it's somewhere in every policy.

It really depends on how the insurance policy is written. RARELY does it allow someone to collect on it, but it has been known to happen.

Most insurance companies don't pay once you are incarcerated, it seems to me that the policy would die LONG before the execution.

The most they would be able to recover is the cost of the premiums paid, less administrative fees.
