Would you sacrifice your life to save someone?

Question

Would you take your own life to save another person? If not, what about two people? Three? Four? Five? Would you give up your own life to save the rest of the world? Would you never sacrifice your own life no matter how many people you could save?

For someone I loved, in a heartbeat. for a stranger I might if I could physically bring myself to do it. My instincts for self preservation might not allow me to go out on a limb (literally) for a random person but if I saw a kid about to get hit by a speeding bus and I felt I could move him clear of danger I would at risk of my own life, it would be a knee-jerk reaction. I think most people would. something rubs me wrong about judging whether someone is worth saving because you can't know that.

First off I marveled at the many answers you received. I think your question is 1. asking too many questions in one question, and 2. way too hypothetical and thus has no answer that would suffice.
Now, in saying that my answer is "YES" I would give up my life to save someones Else if the situation were one that at the time was deemed to be a valid reason to die.
My family , someone who was being beaten by a mob, providing that the person being beaten was not caught in the commission of a crime and the mob was holding that person until the authorities arrived.
If giving of my life would say cure cancer, aids, or Alzheimer diseases then gladly I would give up my life. If hypothetically would I give my life so John Doe does not die then "NO".
Actually your question is irritating and I wonder why one would ask such a bizarre question that has to merit!!!!

This question is so bothersome. On the one hand, if faced with that actual necessity, my life or someone else's, I would imagine it would depend on who that someone was relative to me. On the other hand I can imagine no possible circumstance where purposefully taking my life would possibly save anyone. I can perceive a situation where I must fight to protect a life and somehow lose my life in the process. That is acceptable. But absolutely no situation bears up in which I would need to end my life to save anyone. So, I guess, my answer is NO. My life is as valuable as anyone else's is. Now, if you ask would I risk my life for another we are in a whole other ballpark.

I would only sacrifice my life for ones that would sacrifice there life for me....It truly don't matter if i know them because people daily sacrifice there life for another they don't know (Firefighters)

I believe i am to be like Jesus Christ and he gave up his life for me...i'd be willing to die for him...

I'd only give my life for two people. My mother and my fiance. I've put both through a lot of crap in my life.

sacrafice is a hard thing to do, only way is if you dont fear death, and you cant really say you dont if you never stood toe to toe with death, and at the point where you have the chance to risk your life what do you do, you cant just jump infront of a bullet when all things are racing through your mind.

I would only sacrifice my life for those (people of any number) who are worth being sacrificed for. If they aren't worth it and wouldn't appreciate it, then I wouldn't.
