I am pretty young, and my husband and I have been married a little over 5 years. Things are not working out and we desided to go sperate ways, we are trying to stay civil. We have seperated less then a week ago. I need to tell my parents soon because I am going to have to stay with them until I can get on my feet, but I don't know how to go about telling them. Any ideas?

Directly. Do not discuss the specifics and don't badmouth him. Also, do not let them badmouth him. In the case that you may resolve the problems, whatever you say and they say against him will make it awkward in the future. You may think that you will never reconcile, but I did too and we remarried only a year after divorcing.

Give your parents more credit. They have more life experience than you and have probably seen more divorces than you.

It will hurt them because it's you and they don't want their little girl to be hurt. They might want to know some details. Why? If you have kids, your parents will be concerned about them too. Not just that they need a place to stay, either.

If it is inevitable, you cannot avoid telling them. Part of growing up. They may not understand why your'e splitting but they will understand your need. Trust them.

Good luck. I hope you someday find happiness.

BE STRAIGHT UP WITH THEM!!!!

Go to their house for dinner and simply tell them you have some things to say. Then lay it out straight and truthful. They have seen this many times and they probably will say they saw this coming. Good Luck.

The truth will set you free! Act like an adult, not a child, and just tell them.

Just tell them. They might be more understanding than you think. I know mine were when I got divorced.

how about telling them the truth.
