i have a westell model 6100 dsl modem and im pretty sure it has its own firewall. How do i disable or configure it?

i got to the ip adress went to it and it asks for a username and password. Where do i get this info from?

You need to log into it, usually from your browser. It's address will be something like:
http://192.168.0.1
That may not be the exact one, but it is fairly typical. You should look on the manufacturers website for the exact IP address and default user name / password.

Log on to the router by typing in its ip adress on the top., You can view it by pressing start, run, typing in cmd, and typign in ipconfig
the default gateway is your routers ip adress
you can log on to it from there, and see all of its settings
In many cases, the default ip is 192.168.1.1
