The White House's extreme position will lead to a constitutional crisis where the executive branch refuses to follow the law. Congress may need to use its own inherent contempt powers, in which it would level the charges itself and hold a trial. - if Bush won't let the DOJ do its job.
Bush's stance endangers our 3 part system of government and the Constituton as well as the Republic.

Coragryph: I swear our Congress reminds me of the Christian Democrats and socialists in Germany - in 1914. Too many are ready to stand behind the Kiaser and his war and at what cost ? Lets see if inherent contempt has a chance at circumventing them.

Yes, I agree with what you are saying. And I guess what really concerns me is that they say they are"Conservative" and that they believe in a strict interpretation of the Constitution as the founding fathers intended it. They then do everything they can to expand the powers of the Presidency beyond the Constitutional powers. They defy Congress in a way to make their Constitutional powers weak. Heck, Dick Cheney is a fourth branch of government all by himself.
They are also against abortion but they would volunteer to pull the switch on the electric chair, as they are almost universally pro death penalty.
They believe in limited Government, where the Government stays out of peoples every day lives. But they believe in warrant-less wiretapping of American Citizens.
I think that the American citizens have finally had it with the power hungry and inconsistent Republicans and I look forward to next years elections.

This is not the first time. DDE refused to give information to Congressional Committees, So did JFK and LBJ was famous for it.
The problem is, my belief, the lobbyists and PAC make it in the best interest of the Legislature (Financially) to go along with a War. Money to made, congressmen to be paid. Ever seen one come home from Washington poorer then when they went there?
Don' blame Bush, Nixon did the same too. Blame spineless lying Dems who control the Legislature. IF that were true they could over ride. They don't because they have vested interests in defense contracts.
COnstitutional crises, not hardly, he will be gone in a short time then a new villian will pull the same stuff.

I agree. If the Executive Branch claims too many powers, and the Judicial Branch seems to exist mainly to support the Executive, then we no longer have checks and balances, we have a coup. The Legislative Branch has *got* to start standing up for itself.

Congress abdicated it's role a very long time ago. Agencies now make the laws we the people must live with. The court orders them around and they go along with it. And the Executive branch became a dictatorship starting with Harry Truman. We should just disband congress and send them home. Save our money.

Precisely. However--a little patience. The decent people in Congress know this--and their are some on both sides of the aisle.
Look past the daily barrage of quickie news "analysis" and the sound bytes. Bush's power at this point rests on one thing--the veto. And that is being steadily weakened.

Pretty much.
The Republicans were willingly subservient from 2002 through 2006. And the Democrats are just ineffectual at standing up for what they claim to believe in.
