i know, i know, "I'll be one of a billion." But who knows ha? anyways back to my question[s]. I'll be going over w/ $20,000[going to be broke FAST] and I'm taking acting classes this coming fall. So at least i'll be going over w/ a little experience. I want to know where decent places to live are w/ reasonable rent. I want to know everything about what i should do there as soon as i arrive. Like car registration, insurance, drivers license, recommended acting classes, recommended photographers for headshots, getting a job, etc. everything =)

I wish I could answer your question the way you wrote it.
I wouldn't make the move unless you had a contact out there to help you get settled and oriented. Try You Must Act and The Actors Market. Do not go out there blind.

You sound a million times smarter than most of the people who ask "how do I be an actor" type questions. That's good. My advice, don't come out here just yet. Get A LOT of training first. I know there isn't much where you are but there must be some theater and classes and such. Spend about two years training seriously before you even try to get a job. If you don't you'll make a fool of yourself. You can tell when someone hasn't trained, believe me. You may find that this isn't for you. You may find you love it and crave being in the epicenter of activity for actors. THEN move out here. You may do as you wish of course but that's my two cents. I think you'll do well at anything. You're smarter than average and wise beyond your years. Luck whatever you decide.

Big R is right on target... get as much training as possible BEFORE moving out to LA. You have to understand that there literally hundreds of thousands of girls out here that would be in your boat... and many, many of them have years of acting professionally under their belt.

That said, there is nothing wrong with pursuing acting professionally... if you are a competitive actor. Build your resume as much as possible before you venture out to CA.

As for actually living in LA... honey, you've got a huge shock coming to you. Take the cost of living in Montana and multiply it by 10... got a picture yet?

One onf my professors in college called LA "the land with the beautiful servers," due to the fact that every member of restaurant wait staff is "an actor" here to make the dream happen. The vast majority of the time, it doesn't. I did acting in the LA area, but I contented myself with community theatres, college drama departments, Shakespeare festivals and student films. I was not Equity (nor did I pursue that route) but I did have an agent.

LA is a great place to live if you are an actor who loves acting. If you only want the fame, you will probably be miserable.

A friend of mine has lived in LA for eight years, and is waiting to hear back about a huge opportunity... for a women's product commercial. This would be the biggest break she has had, playing a teenager (she's in her late 20s) talking with her friends about hygiene products. Just putting things in perspective.

Well..it's good that you're being responsible about it, but have you ever lived on your own?

Rent will be crazy in LA..what about utilties, phone, food, health insurance..all that fun stuff...

Good luck though, really.

Um...

Are you insane?! Go to college! If you want to learn to act, learn it there! You will never, NEVER (...NEVER) make it, especially if you're going into theatre, rather than movies...but even so, you have NO CHANCE!!! GO TO COLLEGE FIRST!
