I have no details of actual battles fought by Indians or where Indian soldiers were deployed, but India was a member of the British common-wealth and so they were automatically at war with Germany when England declared war. It sure didn't hurt having India as an ally because of it's location. For one, having all those friendly ports to resupply the British navy. Secondly, India stood in the way of any further Japanese expansion into Asia.

By 1942, Indians were divided over World War II, as the British had unilaterally and without consultation entered India into the war. Some wanted to support the British during the Battle of Britain, hoping for eventual independence through this support. Others were enraged by the British disregard for Indian intelligence and civil rights, and were unsympathetic to the travails of the British people, which they saw as rightful revenge for the enslavement of Indians

Indian troops fought on the side of the British (as India was part of the Empire). They served in Burma, against the Japanese and in North Africa (I think). Burma was part of British India. It was conquered by the Japanese. The invasion of India was stopped at Imphal.

During the war the campaign of passive resistance against the British continued. Also related to the independence movement, a division of Indian troops fought with the Japanese against the British. They discovered that Japanese promises were duplicitous.
