In several states, such as California, the people have voted to make Marijuana legal for people who have medical needs for it, such as Cancer patients in pain. The first of these laws were passed over 10 years ago.
Here's a list of states with laws permitting medical use of marijuana: Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Vermont, Rhode Island, Washington.
However, the Federal government has universally refused to accept these laws as valid, and will arrest anyone they can, in those states, who are found to be taking the drugs according to what was legalized in those states.
We need a Supreme Court ruling on this, to determine whether the DEA and other federal agencies are over-stepping their bounds.

It is possible that there has been a relevant Supreme Court ruling on this and I have missed it.

In no US states is drug usage legal for medical reasons.
Some states, including California, do not prosecute people under state laws. But the federal drug laws still apply, so people can still be prosecute for drug uses, even if only under federal law.

Your question is framed incorrectly. Obviously legal prescription drugs and nonprescription drugs are used for all kinds of medical reasons. Coffee is a "drug". Alcohol is a "drug"
"Illegal" drugs is what you are really asking about.

There are a few states where marijuana is legal for medicinal purposes BUT it has to be a valid, verifiable medical reason. Not just any pot head can walk in to a pharmacy and say "Hey dude like could you like uh uh uh give me some like uh pot cause uh like I'm uh like uh uh uh sick?"
