I have a computer in the living rooom connected with a modem. instead of buying a router can i just buy another modem in my room and connect it to my ps3? please need answers quick.

What would you hook the second modem up to? The cable modem connects to the internet through, well, a cable. There is no way to connect more than one cable modem to it. Even if there was a cable in your room as well, your ISP would have to approve / register your second modem. It wouldn't just work out of the box.

Get a router: it's easier and cheaper.

2 phone lines are required to use 2 dial-up modems at the same time.

Since you are speaking of a PS3, I assume you are speaking of a DSL or Cable "modem" which is actually a cable/dsl router but often called a modem. If you do mean DSL or Cable, you can normally only have one MAC address recognized by the DSL or Cable ISPs unless you pay for it.

Cheapest is to pop a switch on the incoming router and run a network line. good luck.

do you use the phone line to connect? i think as long as you have the plug on those both room it's no problems, but you couldn't use it at the same time. so if you connect on your computer, you have to disconnect your ps3..

If you are using dialup or DSL
you need seperate phone lines
or use only 1 at a time

if cable yes you can
