he's a victim of baseball's obsession....Homerun. homeruns are the most coveted and celebrated aspect of baseball, and he's done everything (including sacrafice his body) for this. He's not a womanizer and child neglector like Mickey Mantle...he's not a booze hound like Dimagio...he gets into it with teammates just as alot of athletes have done (zambrano, nolan ryan...etc),never said anything bad or discouraging about other players like David Wells, what he's done is something alot of athletes have RECENTLY been revealed for...including everyone's favorite muscle head Mark Mcgwire. He takes steroids, lies about it, and refuses to coment on it. But his biggest failure as a superstar is have appeal. Through countless avoidance of interviews and personal questions...can anyone really know Bond's personality? He's an easy target for media bias...because he seems as if he simply doesn't care. He always smiles through the whole controversy...and he didn't break down in tears like mcgwire did. He deserves the recognition just as long as he's not indicted for the steroids (although it's obvious)...but wouldn't it be better if he would at least give some superstar appeal of being magnanimous?
to his defense, at least he's not a John Rocker

I believe Barry Bonds should be recognized by MLB and Bud Selig for his achievement. I just hate how MLB is doing things half-way... They make money on the publicity of the home run record (and change balls to record the big HR), but they try to be all-righteous about the steroid controversy.
MLB should either acknowledge it doesn't believe Bonds record is real OR it should embrace the breaking of the record. Because MLB wants to make money, it might as well embrace the record.
When Hank Aaron broke the HR record, commissioner Bowie Kuhn wasn't present... Aaron has held a grudge against Kuhn since then. Don't you think Selig should try to prevent the same situation by attending the games?
Realistically, we won't know Bonds place in history for another 10 or so years. Today, Bonds is the ultimate scapegoat because of the BALCO involvement and the HR chase. But what if 50% of the MLB players were discovered to be juiced (including pitchers)? I believe most people wouldn't view Bonds as negatively as today because "half the players cheated".
MLB might as well celebrate the HR chase and make money on it... Then do it again when A-Rod looks to break the record. Because if Bonds is declared innocent (however slight the possibility it is), MLB would look real foolish if it didn't celebrate the chase.

No. He is a terrible person overall. Hank Aaron no matter what never complained about his hate mail. Barry Bonds complains about every sentence someone says. Aaron deserves the record much more than Bonds. Also, we all know in about 5-7 years Alex Rodriguez will come around and break Bonds' record. No one should complain about that though. If he was breaking the record, I would not mind.
BONDS IS A JERK AND DOES NOT DESERVE THE RECORD

Who wants to know about steroid use when it was legal when Barry took them? There is no controversy because steroids and HGH were not banned or illegal back then. He's definitely deserving of HOF induction, no matter what, and his records have to stand because those drugs do not enhance performance in baseball.
The negative answerers should think about answering more sensible next time and not waste too much of your limited brain power with dumb ones. Just put your hockey helmets back on and don't miss your short yellow school bus.....

I think Barry Bonds is a jerk.
I think Barry Bonds is a cheater.
I think Barry Bonds does not wreak of the spirit of the game.
BUT Barry Bonds is still going to break the record. Even if he did take steroids, he still had to make contact with each and everyone of those balls to make them fly out of the park.
He may not be a shining role model for baseball;
but like it or not, he's still going to smash the record, and that deserves recognition, regardless of his otherwise crappy moral track record.

you know i gotta say this... i don't condone performance inhancing drugs of any kind.
that being said, i have to say that i personally think that barry bonds is one of the best players of all time in baseball including his original position of 3rd base. i personally think that barry bonds should be inducted into the hall of fame on the first ballott for all his accomplishments. and lastly i personally feel that his breaking aarons home run mark should be relished by the fans and cherished as one of the greatest accomplishments of all time. barry bonds has never other than one time tested positive for any performance inhancing drugs. he did have a negligible positive for a steroid after using some cream for pain that was a steroid base. now its true he is under investagation for misleading a grand jury... i understand that, but if barry bonds is guilty so be it and the records should be striped. my personal opinion. now consider this... babe ruth, ty cobb, tris speaker, shoeless joe, and many others that started their career in the teens and early 20's all used cocaine everyday and marajuana was an accepted medication as well as morphine, opium, hashish, and many other substances. you could buy them over the counter and everybody that ever drank a coke in those days were really drinking a coke. almost every over the counter remedy had something that increased your metabolism or enhanced your performance in one way or the other. how do you think it was possible for a slow, fatman to hit the amount of homers he did in yankee stadium and in fenway park?? in those days they were cavernous. if i remember right i think that old yankee stadium was like 420 to center. should we strip all the glory away from those former greats who freely admit using? come on folks barry bonds is and has been throughout his career an outstanding ball player. time to face up to the truth about the past greats and judge them on the same field as barry bonds.

Barry Bonds should be recognized among the best to ever play the game. Period. He will go into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot.
He has not tested positive for steroids. Until he does, how can you not recognize his accomplishments?
I will get to see him live at Dodger Stadium at the end of the month & I do have tickets in the right field bleachers. Hopefully Hammerin Hank's record holds up until that night.

No, he does not deserve any recognition. In my book, Hank Aaron will still be the all time homerun king. Hopefully someone like A-Rod or Pujols will be the new leader in the next decade.

i think hes the greatest hitter of all time. if he wasnt walked nearly 200 times in 2001 he would have hit 90 homeruns that year, im sorry that is not steroids, some people(racists) love to hate.
if he was pitched to like hank was he would have over 900 homeruns by now.

Great ball player but the the overwhelming evidence of steroid use has tainted his image as it should. He is about to break the record of a man that is known to have not cheated, not really fair in my opinion.
