I am going to court in the AM for a settlement hearing in front of a judge...just wanted some tips on how to handle myself...should i be myself (quiet and reserved) or should i be more aggressive towards the opposing attorney? I know to be respectful, especially to the judge, but i didnt know if i should be more angry, or more passive...and any other tips...thanks!

Just be yourself. Never argue with opposing counsel. Dress conservatively. No non-essential jewelry. No fragrances. Cell phone OFF. Be nice. Be respectful. Be honest.

It is your attorney's job to deal aggressively with opposing counsel. That's what he/she gets paid to do for you. Otherwise why have one? If you act like an ***, you will be judged negatively for it. Taking the high road and telling the truth is the best thing. You should not be completely checked out, but it is not your place to hassle opposing counsel, or be evasive.

Look AT the judge and opposing attorney when asked questions. And do not have your hands inside your pockets.

You should be VERY respectful of all people in the room, regardless of who they are. Remember: the judge is NEVER wrong. Never. Wear a shirt and tie! It matters that you care enough to dress appropriately. T-shirts will get you canned, and quickly.

A lawyer's (bad) dream: A client who goes on YA asking how he should behave in court. Or are you un-represented?
