I've heard that kits exist to convert built in diswashers to portable dishwashers, but can't seem to find anything on the internet. I have a perfectly good built in-style dishwasher in my garage, but can't install it under the counter in my rental house. Is there any help for this busy mom who hates to do dishes?

I have this exact same problem. My landlord doesn't want me to install it because of having to run water lines to a new spot in the kitchen. So, the kit to make it portable is the only way to go.

Okay, good luck. I haven't been able to find anything on the internet, either. I'm actually emailing someone offlist about their claim to have done this. if I get a reply, I will post here and let you know, either by modifying my answer, or adding a comment. I know this can be done, though. It seems too simple to not be able to. :-)

Hi busy mom that hates dishes! Well I would try to make a box (think as though you were actually installing it) with a piece of counter top and all. If you have someone to help and knows ele/water hoses and all...you should be able to change the permanent ones for a portable type. Put wheels on the bottom of the box (made of chipboard/plywood of course with a 2x4 frame) and there you go.

I have taken a portable dishwasher and took it apart and made it a under the counter. I would suggest to take the old one apart and take measurements. To make sure. And what ever you do do not take out the concrete block out of it or it will turn over every time you open the door. Good Luck

I have never heard of one. By the time you rigged one to work, the cost would be more than buying a portable unit.
