Is this normal or do I really like it?? I hate it when i'm smoking, but when I'm not smoking I don't like it.

The main time I feel like smoking is when I'm drinking. Should I give up drinking until I've quit smoking??

Patches and gum doesn't work, I want to do this cold turkey.

Any help?? And please don't say take up a hobby because it doesn't work for me. Even if I'm craving one and i'm doing something else, i'll still smoke.

I need some brain tricking to make it think I don't need one (which I dont)

This is probably the 6th-ish time i've quit. Generally the quitting lasts for about 3 weeks. So i'm fine getting through the first week and dealing with the withdrawl, but after a few weeks I cave!

Gene - I really DO want to quit!! But after i've "had a break" as you say, THEN I feel like I enjoy smoking.

What i am asking about that is, is my brain tricking me into saying I LIKE smoking because i'm addicted

this is how I quit. Like you, I couldn't quit for myself. I was getting into environmentalism and stuff like that, and convinced myself that it was bad for the world if I smoked. It was bad for the ozone layer, etc. and bad for others health, even if I didn't care about my own.

maybe you can use a similar approach. find something you care about, that means more to you than smoking.

that sounds really silly once I've written it out--but I swear that's why I still don't smoke today.

I quit about 5 years ago.

I feel your pain. I just quit smoking 2 months ago. I had a prescription for Chantix. It is a brand new drug that WORKS. I did not have all the cravings that you usually have when you try to quit. Keep reminding yourself that smoking is going to KILL you. Good luck. It's hard I know.

Chantix has a website. www.chantix.com

I just quit a 43 year smoking addiction. I asked my doctor for the new pill to help and it is WORKING. The prescription is called Chantix. This is NOT SPAM.......I am just answering the question. Cold turkey does NOT make you a better person.......this pill tells the receptors in the brain that you don't need nicotime. There is NO nicotine in it. Please, reconsider getting some help. My family is in AWE of my not smoking cause I always told them that I didn't want to quit.

Its a wise decision to quit smoking. Obviously you need lots of will power and resolve to quit. You need to overcome 2 factors in the early phase.

a) Withdrawal symptoms like mood change, anger, depression, insomnia, headache etc

b) beat the nicotine craving

Use an external aid along with your will power. Lots of quit smoking aids are available. I used a natural remedy called 'Crave Rx' it worked for me. It is effective and has no side effects.

Ok, if your really serious about quitting smoking, then there is only one answer for you. www.chantix.com. My husband has been smoking for thirty years and a five pack a day smoker. He started chantix in June 2007 and to date hasnt had a cigarette in over thirty days. My self, I have been smoking 37 years, just about 2 packs a day, am still on the starter kit, and havent had a cigarette in 6 days. This stuff really works, you will feel sick to the point you cannot stand cigarette smoke near you. It works real well. We loved to smoke, we enjoyed smoking it calmed us, soothed us. Now we dont miss it as much as we thought we would have. It is a sure thing, it is expensive. But in the long run it will save you money and your life. By the way husband had to quit when he found out he had lung cancer. Good Luck.

You're NOT going to be able to quit...
for ONE reason....

because, you don't want to.

Oh, as far as "quitting" six times....you never "quit" you simply took time-outs. Quitting, by it's own definition, is final.
